We are Darin French and Amy Scherer, husband and wife and local entrepreneurs who purchased Koda the Photo Bus in November 2020.

A native of the Black Hills, Amy is a mother of three, hairstylist, and photographer. She’s enjoyed photography since she received a Kodak Disc back as a youngster in 1986 and has been pursuing it more seriously since 2008. She has a collection of vintage suitcases full of wigs and props that she would bring to gatherings of family and friends, along with a DSLR camera, tripod and remote. Seeing the van and photo booth combination seemed too good to be true, as she’s also had a lifelong dream to own a VW bus. When she saw Koda’s for sale ad, she knew she had to take over this fun and creative venture.

Darin, a musician (and much more), is also from the Black Hills. He performs locally, gives guitar lessons and writes guitar instruction books. He’s been playing guitar since he was a small child and eventually attended music school in Minneapolis. While Darin has never owned a vintage suitcase full of wigs, he couldn’t say no to this business opportunity partly because he, too, loves VW vans—and briefly owned one back in the day. Not only will he be an integral part of the business, but he’s also available to sing and play guitar at your weddings and parties.
